£28,000 raised for Cancer Research UK

Every year on the 4th February, we recognise World Cancer Day. Currently 9.6 million people die every year from the disease, and it is estimated more than a third of cases are preventable while a further third are curable if detected and treated early. This is why it is more important than ever to raise awareness and funds, to help accelerate medical breakthroughs.

In 2018, Venn Group voted to take a stand against cancer, choosing Cancer Research UK as our charity of the year. It has been a truly fantastic twelve months, with our employees, as always, getting stuck in to raising money for this incredibly worthy cause.

We’ve seen everything from a Kilimanjaro climb to cycling a century and fancy dress days to bake sales. Through the combined efforts of everyone at Venn Group, we are thrilled to announce that our fundraising total for 2018 is an incredible £28,000. This can fund:

  • A research assistant for one year, who will carry out vital experiments in the lab helping to reach the next breakthrough in cancer research
  • A trial of an improved radiotherapy technique for prostate cancer for 3 months
  • The Add-aspirin trial for one month, which will find out whether aspirin could be used to stop cancer returning after treatment
  • The running of the Cancer Chat service for 3 months; a safe online space open to anyone to discuss any aspect of the disease, from symptoms and treatment to living with cancer

Thank you to everyone who donated over the course of the year, and a special thank you to those who took part in challenge events to raise money. This will have a real impact on helping the lives of those affected by cancer, and in the fight to beat it altogether.
