Countdown to the Housing Finance Conference 2019

In three weeks, we will be attending the Housing Finance Conference & Exhibition 2019; the most respected finance event in the social housing calendar. The agenda of diverse networking experiences and line up of expert speakers will equip finance professionals in the sector with the skills to succeed in what are undoubtedly challenging times.
Homelessness rates are rising dramatically, and there is a growing list of people in temporary accommodation waiting for social housing. Meanwhile, those who can rent are spending a huge percentage of their monthly income on housing costs, and potential buyers wistfully watch as the price of housing soars at a much faster rate than average incomes. The government’s Help to Buy ISA initiative does not go far enough to combat this, as many two-bedroom properties, especially in London, cost more than the set value thresholds. Many believe that the government are refusing to admit we are in a housing crisis, and the lack of appropriate action being taken is leading to tensions in the sector.
Numerous questions are being asked as to what can be done to help combat the homelessness problem, and how we go about ending the cycle of increased rent and property prices. The commission of Shelter, our charity partner of the year, recommends a historic renewal of social housing, with a 20-year programme delivering 3.1 million more social homes. They also promote the introduction of a new regulator to reform and monitor the rental market. Ultimately, the future depends on the actions of our law makers, but finance teams will be crucial for businesses’ ability to adapt to any changes introduced.
Since 2001, Venn Group have partnered with the housing sector to provide finance professionals for interim, fixed term contract and permanent assignments. If you are attending the conference and are looking to recruit to your team, or looking for a new opportunity, then please do come and visit us at stand 420 across both days.
