Spring Clean your Outlook

After the seemingly endless months of January and February, winter is firmly behind us. As we enter a new season, we are surrounded by evidence of a transition. Branches that were previously bare are starting to bloom, and soon enough there will be the presence of new-born livestock across our green spaces. Combined with the promise of longer days and – hopefully – better weather, the emergence of spring traditionally brings an air of positivity with it.
While optimism and opportunity are frequently associated with the turn of a new year, often the first couple of months can feel like an uphill battle. It is a time of goal setting and aspiration, but it can also often be a very busy stretch following the Christmas break. Managing to achieve your 2019 resolutions at the same time as getting back to business as usual can often be too much. Instead, we may want to consider the first couple of months as a period during which we lay the foundations to build on in the subsequent seasons, as opposed to when we accomplish the goals themselves.
In contrast, the fresh perspective that comes with Spring provides the perfect backdrop to see real progress occur. In the same way that people take it as an opportunity to physically reorganise themselves through their ‘spring clean’, there is the chance to take a period of reflection on other aspects of your life. Do the objectives you set yourself at the start of the year still apply? Or have changes compelled you to reconsider? If you didn’t set any resolutions, have the last two months illuminated something you might want to pursue? It doesn’t matter what the answers to these questions are, but there is no point wasting precious time on goals that do not have your full commitment anymore. Reconsider your priorities, and you’ll approach the following season with clarity and the drive to achieve.
As the year gets into full swing, and you take a metaphorical step back to evaluate, you may decide that you want to make pivotal changes to your circumstances. Often, these changes are related to your career. We spend a significant amount of our time at work, so it is of paramount importance that you are happy with your choice.
