Our Recycling Revolution

Following our initiative to become a single-use plastic water bottle free zone, we are continuing to improve our environmental credentials with the arrival of a brand new recycling programme in all our offices this week.
While we have always provided means of recycling in our offices, upon further review it became apparent that these were not being utilised properly. We have therefore removed all standalone waste bins and replaced them with combined mixed recycling and general waste receptacles.
With concern surrounding the future of the planet making headline news on an almost daily basis, it is of pivotal importance that every company strives towards greener operations. Here are several reasons why recycling is essential for the future of society:
- Carbon cuts – Carbon emissions are a proven catalyst for climate change, which bodes to cause disaster for our planet if not decreased. These are generated through many activities that are negated by recycling such as sourcing raw materials, pollution from waste on landfill sites and the burning of this waste later down the line.
- Protects our ecosystems – Extracting raw materials from the Earth causes significant disruption to the natural world. Forests are destroyed, rivers diverted, and many animals also lose their habitats as a result. Recycling reduces the need for this, whilst also preventing waste from entering back into the environment.
- Lower cost – In 2017, Lambeth Council announced it was 6 times cheaper to dispose of recycled waste than general refuse. In addition, recycling food waste means valuable compost can be generated which in turn is used to grow more food and crops.
- More jobs – A report by Friends of the Earth calculated that by 2025, at least 50,000 new jobs could be created if the target of recycling 70% of our waste was reached, both in recycling directly and through supply chains and the wider economy.
All this proves it is well worth taking a moment to consider whether your rubbish can be recycled, as opposed to just throwing it in the first bin you see.
If you are visiting our offices, please feel free to use our new bins to dispose of your waste and be sure to ask our staff if you would like assistance on whether it can be recycled or not.
