Dietitian
Duration: Temporary – three months
Location: Shrewsbury/ Stafford
Hours: Part-time – 16 hours a week
Rate: £21 - £26 per hour (via an umbrella company)
This is an interim contract of three months starting ASAP. For this position, it is a part-time contract of 16 hours a week working alongside the Multi-disciplinary team.
Outline duties below:
- To provide specialist dietetic service to the Children’s Eating disorders pathway within the Care group. This involves working with patients and MDT members to identify and address the psychological, physical and social factors that may affect compliance with dietary treatment
- To provide specialist advice to patients deemed to be a high physical risk
- To undertake comprehensive assessments of children and young people’s diet and lifestyle to formulate individualised management and treatment ensuring optimal outcome whilst minimising risk. The assessments include interpreting biochemical data and using quantitative / qualitative analysis of nutritional information
- To be aware of and able to identify patients at high psychiatric risk (eg of suicide, malnutrition) and liaise with the MDT regarding the management of risk in these patients
- To communicate effectively with patients. This involves giving dietary advice to patients and health professionals where acceptance is potentially difficult or assistance is required. This will also occasionally involve working in conditions requiring the ability to react sensitively where patients have a history of physical, sexual and / or mental abuse
- To communicate with referring agents and other agents as necessary through personal, written, telephone contact and email
- To work autonomously with the MDT and reflection on clinical practice through clinical supervision
- To act as a resource to junior members or unqualified support staff working within Mental Health service
- To write, implement and monitor guidelines for management of patients requiring dietetic assessment and treatment
- To provide advice and training to nursing and therapy staff to enable them to give basic dietetic advice to patients of low physical risk and to advise the medical team on nutritional care of the patients
- To develop skills and knowledge within the field of mental health
- Identify training needs and development needs and undertake education as required
- The post holder is expected to keep up to date with new developments in practice through review of literature, internet resources and attending courses / conferences
- To take the lead on audit of the dietetic interventions of Mental Health services
- To implement NICE, BDA and clinical governance legislation within mental health
