Head of Service- Adult Social Care
Based in South East England
Length: 3 months initially
A local authority is recruiting a head of service specifically within adult social care including occupational therapy and a community independence service. This role will require sustaining the strong relationships with current partners as well as implementing strategic decision making across the health and care systems to design and lead the provision on high quality accessible support and services that promote independence, wellbeing and choice.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic, high level decision making relating to service development, delivery, staff and resources
- Work effectively as part of a team with senior managers and maintain good relationships with external partners to efficiently deliver high quality services to the council’s residents
- Diligent budget and resource planning/management and development of future saving plans and service design
- Advise deputy Director, the DASS, colleagues and members on policy changes to legislative framework
- Effective management of all employer functions; HR consultation and decision making, chairing disciplinary panels and reorganisation implementation
- Development and implementation of effective governance systems to assure the quality of social work practice and service delivery
Skills and experience required:
- Relevant qualification or experience in social care, including significant experience of managing social care services
- In depth understanding of and commitment to the integration of health and social care
- Methodical and accurate experience in budget management, and previous evidence of the ability to develop significant savings whilst maintaining quality
- Excellent interpersonal skills with evidence of utilising these to build productive partnerships
- Knowledge of legislation and guidance affecting health and social care
- Previous experience of operating at this level within a local government organisation
