Interim Housing, Disrepair and Litigation Lawyer – 3 months – Full-Time - Local Authority
Venn Group’s specialist Legal team are currently working with a Local Authority based in Hampshire, who are known for their excellent team culture, to recruit for an Interim Housing and Litigation Lawyer.
This is a full time role, working 5 days a week (1 day working in office / 4 days working from home). Working hours: 9am – 5pm (40 hrs a week)
Responsibilities of the Interim Housing and Litigation Lawyer:
Housing and Litigation
- Undertake civil litigation on behalf of the Council with an emphasis on Housing
- Appear on behalf of the Council before the County Court, Magistrates’ Court and at other tribunals as directed by either the Service Lead: Legal or Public Law Manager
- Provide legal advice and assistance to Members and Officers from all divisions of the Council but with an emphasis on the Housing Department
- To deal with Housing possession Homelessness and Housing Disrepair claims on behalf of the Council
- Attend Committee meetings as allocated by the Service Lead: Legal or Public Law Manager
- To work with and help supervise junior lawyers dealing with housing cases
- Undertake such other duties, as determined by either the Service Lead: Legal or Public Law Manager commensurate with the grade of the post, the abilities of the post holder and the general post objective
Public law
- To give effect to the policies and decisions of the Council
- Provide legal advice to the Council’s Committees, Members, and departments as appropriate
- To maintain a knowledge and awareness of developments in relevant areas of law
- Maintain good working relationships with other members of the Department and with Councillors, other managers and departments of the Council
- Maintain good relations with the public and other bodies within the wider community as required by the Public Law Manager or Service Lead: Legal and as far as is practicable in line with the requirements of the post
The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer and have district and/or Borough council experience in Housing and/or Litigation.
