IT Network Engineer

We are currently working with a Local Authority in London to recruit a Network Engineer to support an ICT service insourcing.

Role:

Reporting to the Head of IT Service Delivery, responsible for ensuring the stability and efficient operation of the council’s network infrastructure. You will undertake significant and complex technical work on the council’s network and associated infrastructure and systems. This will either be in support of operational requirements or in the implementation of new projects and technologies including: design, develop, test, deployment and ensuring project work is delivered in a timely fashion

Duties:

Installation, configuration, and support of network equipment including firewalls, routers, security appliances, switches, wireless access points, and similar
Administration of the Council’s LAN / WAN infrastructure
Troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems
Replacing faulty network hardware components when required
Monitoring and optimising network performance
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks
Support continuous improvement initiatives, including project support, strategic planning, and road map development and implementation
Management and monitoring of incident and service request tickets
Work with the Information Security to ensure that the platform is effectively secured and that risks are mitigated
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, and processes
Work with other partners and vendors on the development and delivery of the network platform
Liaise directly with support partners and End Users to resolve issues

Required Experience:

Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, (Palo Alto) firewall, (Cisco / HP) routers and switches in line with IT security policies
Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for the design and planning of network systems
Able to maximise and optimise a LAN / WAN by monitoring performance, and troubleshooting network problems and outages
Knowledge and understanding of VPN, IPsec, DHCP, DNS, HTTP/s
Knowledge on how to secure network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access
Familiar with packet sniffers like Wireshark
Knowledge of Private, Hybrid and/or Public Cloud
Knowledge of Microsoft technologies including ‘Always On VPN’
