IRIS Advocate Educator
Venn Group’s Social Housing Recruitment Team are currently recruiting for an IRIS Advocate Educator for a highly reputable domestic violence organisation based in Cardiff to begin an FTC of 9 months with the possibility of extension.
Location: Cardiff
Contract Type: FTC 9months +
Working days: 35 hours Mon-Fri, shifts between 7am-8pm (Some weekend work required)
Hourly Rate: £25,727
Day-to-Day Duties:
- Deliver training to health care professionals about DVA in participating general practices
- Promote awareness of the experiences and needs of women living with or escaping DVA, particularly in relation to their health
- Develop a good relationship with all general practice staff and work effectively as part of the practice team
- Review number of advocate referrals made by clinicians in participating general practices
- Feedback on the use of the electronic template linked to the project and to provide patient feedback and case updates /outcomes
- Provide accurate statistical information as and when required
- Act as the first point of contact for all queries from primary care
- Provide support to women experiencing DVA referred by primary health care clinicians from participating practices
- Provide direct casework support, advice, information and advocacy to women experiencing DVA through telephone contact, and/or meetings at the relevant practice
- Work with women experiencing DVA to increase their personal safety (and that of any children) and inform them of their rights and options in terms of housing, legal and welfare rights
- To develop good working relationships and liaise with outside agencies when needed. This will include referral to IDVA services within the specialist agency, or other external agencies when appropriate. Page 3 of 6 Performance and Quality

Essential Skills:
- Understanding of domestic violence/ abuse including the impact of domestic violence/ abuse on women and children
- Have theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of civil and criminal justice remedies for victims of domestic abuse
- Understand child protection issues, how to respond effectively to safeguard CYP and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues
- Understand the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic violence/ abuse and their children
- Understand the remits and resources of relevant statutory bodies and voluntary agencies. Understand and be committed to equal opportunities and diversity issues in policy and practice
Desirable Skills:
- Hold a CAADA/SafeLives IDVA training certificate, or relevant degree, or demonstrable equivalent experience or a vocational qualification
- Local to the area
