Interim Management Accountant
Our client, a well-respected public sector body in Bristol, is looking for a Management Accountant to come on board on a temporary basis for an initial 3 month contract. The Management Accountant will lead on the production of monthly budget statements by processing and review of financial information and variances.
Location: Bristol (Fully Remote)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Length of Contract: 3 Months (Extension up to 6 months)
Hourly Rate: £14.30 -£17.60 via Umbrella

Day to Day Duties:
- Update, prepare and develop budget statements from the general ledger system on a monthly basis in accordance with laid down procedures and timetables, including the preparation and posting of journals as appropriate
- Identify and investigate complex variances and other performance indicators, make required budget or expenditure adjustments and provide backup information to managers in an appropriate format to assist understanding by non-finance staff
- Assist with the timely and accurate production and development of financial analysis to be used to support financial reporting, ensuring all information produced is in accordance with the Board/Management Team deadlines and is checked for errors, reviewed for accuracy, reasonableness and clarity before publication
- Pursue corrective action with budget managers for rectification of variances or errors, ensuring that senior managers are made aware of underlying pressures
- Assist in forecasting of expenditure
- Ensure all changes in service and practice are identified and resource implications quantified, and that managers adhere to Trust procedures before the change is implemented
- Monthly review of in post and establishment whole time equivalents to ensure accurate recording of staffing in accordance with Standing Financial Instructions and within budgetary limits, maintaining confidentiality of data
- Responsible for ensuring that all income is accurately recorded and recharges monitored, all on a monthly basis as appropriate
- Maintain a schedule of planned periodic payments including estimates of outstanding income or expenditure to ensure completeness of the accounts
- Produce ad hoc reports as required and respond to and resolve complex queries from budget managers promptly and accurately, referring them to others when necessary
- Establish a good working relationship with budget managers, holding monthly or periodic meetings as required to ensure effective feedback and service, providing advice in line with Standing Financial Instructions and financial policies and procedures
Essential Skills:
- Extensive accountancy experience within the public sector
- Advanced MS Office skills (Excel)
- AAT Qualified or Equivalent
