Job Title: Manual Handling Advisor

We are currently recruiting for a Manual Handling Advisor within a leading NHS trust in Merseyside. This is a key role on a interim basis
Duties will include:
- Providing specialist advice to Trust staff on manual handling, ergonomic and risk assessment issues. Lead in and provide expert advice and support to staff at all levels within the Trust on issues relating to moving and handling staff and patient safety
- Promoting best practice in the field of manual handling, acting as a role model for the Trust. Disseminate up to date information in moving and handling throughout the Trust
- Responsible for delivery of up to date, clear, understandable information including safer handling techniques, underpinned by evidence-based decision making that links to recognised safer handling techniques and risk management
- Support and advise the Trust as appropriate in complying with all HSE and legislative guidance and requirements for reduction of manual handling risk, including EU directives, statutory body requirements, hazards and safety notices and advice relating to patient, public or staff safety, personal privacy and confidentiality
- Provide specialist advice, with the support and input of the moving and handling team, to assist staff in resolving moving and handling problems
- As Service Lead respond to requests for assistance with assessment of patients with more complex moving and handling needs; this will include working clinically to support ward staff, advising on the correct techniques and equipment to be used on an individual patient basis.
- Lead in the improvement, design and implementation of systems for patient handling risk assessment providing support and training
- Work closely with the Health, Safety & Security team and the Health at Work teamin the overall reduction of musculoskeletal injuries to staff, producing reports to the Health and Safety Group as required regarding moving and handling matters in the Trust.
- Review and monitor the completion of Manual Handling risk assessments for all Clinical and Non-Clinical staff. The post holder would be required to undertake complex manual handling assessments when required and provide specialist advice
- Lead on all the investigation of incidents involving manual handling, including RIDDOR investigations. To liaise with the relevant departments, Risk and Patient Safety, Occupational Health, Managers and Senior staff regarding any recommendations to be actioned
- Review all Trust incidents reports relating to moving and handling for key trends/issues. Monitor moving and handling incidents and make recommendations for further action and escalate as necessary.
Essential skills / qualifications:
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Recognised healthcare qualification- RCN Registered Nursing / AHP HCPC Registered / Sports and Exercise Science to BSC / Msc or Equivalent experience
- Evidence of ongoing professional development / relevant courses
- Single Handed Care Trained
- Standard DBS will be carried out on all successful candidates
