Port Health Officer Opportunity
Our client, a renowned local authority is seeking a number of passionate Environmental Health Officer’s to join their Port Health team. This role will require someone who has a relevant Level 3/ 4 qualification.
Position: Port Health Officer
Period: 6 -9 months (with possibility of extension)
Hours: 37 hours
Location: South East
Rate: £30,000 (negotiable dependent on experience)
Drivers license: Full Required
IR35 status: Inside
Responsibilities:
- To carry out documentary checks as well as assisting in physical inspections on the import of products of animal origin and high risk food not of animal origin in order to ensure that only products that are safe enter the food chain
- Applying port health controls on imports in accordance with relevant statutory provisions and legislation
- Work under direct supervision of senior environmental health officers
- Assisting in the destruction of unsatisfactory consignments ensuring that goods are destroyed at the correct waste facility
- To compile inspection reports, legal notices and take further legal actions as necessary and commensurate with the role
- Collecting evidence and preparing reports as necessary relevant to the required enforcement activity including providing evidence in court and to public inquiries as necessary
Desired experience:
- Excellent communication, customer service and problem-solving skills
- Previous work or a relevant qualification in food control
- Able to interpret and analyse food safety, health & safety and public health legislation, statutory guidance, technical updates and good practice
