Principal Accountant- Dedicated Schools Grant

A local authority is recruiting a skilled Principal Accountant to support the development of a new system and a traded finance service for a collection of schools. The successful candidate will have a pivotal role working amongst the team and managing all aspects of the budget, cash flow and allocations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor cash flows, grants, monthly management reporting and quarterly external reporting
- Provide high quality customer focused financial information, training, modelling, analysis, support and advice to stakeholders across the council, including other finance officers, budget holders and senior managers to support financial reporting, decision making and budget management
- Support managers to identify and implement savings, value for money improvements.
- Provide high quality financial information and analysis and undertake complex financial modelling and forecasting
- Support integrated SEND service and the Early Years’ service
- Manage a team of three
Skills and experience required:
- Previously worked for a local authority
- Demonstrable experience within a demand-led service e.g. Schools, Children’s Services, Adult Social Care
- Membership of appropriate professional body by examination e.g. CIPFA, or other CCAB body; plus evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Ability to work with high level internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to exercise initiative and good judgement in delivering service and council aims and objectives
