Senior Accountant – Children’s Services
We are currently working with a Midlands local authority who require an interim Senior Accountant to come assist their Children’s Services department.
Role Responsibilities
- Work with the relevant Directorate Leadership Team to agree and deliver the key financial priorities for the service over the medium term
- Ensure the financial resources available to the Directorate are effectively used and managed to secure the delivery of the Directorate Performance Plan
- Act as the finance lead in the delivery of specific projects and programmes; providing financial challenge, advice and support
- Effectively support the Councils Section 151 Officer through the provision of high quality financial advice to Members, the Directorate Leadership Team and Corporate Leadership Team
- Deliver corporate financial requirements in line with internal and external regulations and timescales
- To play a key role in the co-ordination of the financial forecast reporting
- To play a key role in the strategic budget process for SMBC and manage detailed reviews of the relevant base budgets
- To apply technical expertise/professional analysis to high level problem resolution, using consistent technical judgement to guide decision making
The ideal candidate will have
- Fully qualified Accountant (Current Member of CCAB or CIMA)
- Technical knowledge of producing public sector accounting
- Experience of managing a financial team and working closely with other teams to deliver tangible outcomes
- Experience of financial modelling and analysis to assist decision making
- Ability to effectively communicate complex and technical financial information both verbally and in writing, including to a non-financial audience.

Rate: Negotiable available upon experience (Inside IR35)
Duration: 3-6 months with likely extensions
