Senior Environmental Health Officer – Housing

Hours: Full time, 37hr - 5 days per week
Rate: £350 a day via Umbrella Inside IR35
Duration: 3 months initially (likely to extend)
Location: Wolverhampton, West Midlands

Responsibilities:
- Efficiently and effectively discharge the duties and tasks assigned to the Housing Standards Team including the supervision of the work of Environmental Health Officers, Housing Improvement Officers and Housing Standards Officers
- Represent and assist the Service Manager Private Sector Housing in the discharge of the operational functions assigned to the section and to take lead role for certain functions
- Deputise for the Service Manager Private Sector Housing and to lead on certain key/significant functions and/or projects
- Provide support and assistance to officers of the Housing Service to enable the efficient and effective discharge of the duties and tasks assigned to the Section
- Assist the Service Manager Private Sector Housing in the assessment of enquiries and applications for licensing and other schemes under the Housing Act 2004
- Assist the Service Manager Private Sector Housing in the development of licensing and other strategies and schemes for introduction under the Housing Act 2004
- Develop and manage specific projects, including survey work and consultation with residents relating to private sector housing conditions
- Assist the Service Manager Private Sector Housing in the preparation of the Service Plan for the Division
- Survey and inspect dwellings either as individual properties or in groups of properties to establish conditions and breaches of statutory provisions
- Prepare schedules of work in relation to bringing dwellings up to the required standard and recommend relevant action to be taken in line with the Council’s statutory responsibilities
- Prepare formal and informal notices and orders and to monitor action taken in response to them
- Carry out visits and inspections following service of notices and orders
- Arrange for work to be carried out works in default of statutory notices and to monitor that work
- Give advice and information to owners and residents in respect of the Council’s statutory obligations
- Carry out inspections of houses in multiple occupation in connection with licensing, accreditation and current legislation and other standards as adopted by the Council
- Prepare informal and formal notices and orders in relation to houses in multiple occupation and to monitor action taken in response to them
- Arrange for assistance, financial or otherwise, to be given or work to be carried out in default in respect of houses in multiple occupation and to monitor that work
- Prepare evidence and in Court processes in respect of relevant work and to attend Court and public inquiries
- Deputise for the Service Manager Private Sector Housing as required
