We are working with a South West based Local Authority who are looking for an interim Senior SEN Tribunal Officer to join their team:
You will lead and manage SEND Tribunal appeals on behalf of the Local Authority, ensuring statutory compliance and effective representation in relation to decisions concerning children and young people with special educational needs. The role is responsible for preparing, coordinating and presenting complex cases, helping to achieve positive outcomes for children, families and the Council.

Rate: £400-£500 per day inside IR35
Working arrangement: Remote
Duration: 6 Months
Target start date: 29th June
Role Details
- Manage the full SEND Tribunal appeal process, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, regulations and timescales
- Prepare and present cases on behalf of the Local Authority at SEND Tribunal hearings and mediation meetings
- Analyse complex evidence, reports and legal documentation to support decision-making and case preparation
- Maintain and develop systems used to monitor and manage tribunal activity and appeal outcomes
- Provide expert advice and guidance on SEND legislation, tribunal processes and case law
- Build effective relationships with schools, families, legal representatives and partner agencies throughout the appeals process
- Produce high-quality reports, submissions, written representations and tribunal documentation
- Support continuous improvement by identifying trends, risks and learning opportunities arising from tribunal activity
Requirements
- Extensive experience managing SEND Tribunal appeals and representing organisations within formal tribunal processes
- In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Education Act 1996, Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice and relevant case law
- Strong experience working within a local authority or similar statutory environment
- Excellent report writing, analytical and case preparation skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to interpret complex legislation, policies and evidence to make sound decisions and recommendations
- Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with confidence handling sensitive and challenging situations
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and perform effectively under pressure
- Degree-level education or equivalent experience, alongside advanced ICT skills including databases and Microsoft Office applications
