Interim Children’s Placement Commissioner

Based in London

Length: 3-6 months initially

IR35: Inside

 

A local authority in London is recruiting for a Children’s Placement Commissioner who will be responsible for the placement commissioning and resources team (CRT) and discharging statutory and non-statutory duties for children, young people and their families.  

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Looked After Children are safe and have the best chance to succeed through securing outcomes focused placements that meet the needs of individual children with complex vulnerabilities
  • Focus includes Looked After Children and Care Leavers
  • Contribute to the overall management of the CYP Commissioning Service and the wider Forward Planning, Performance and Partnership Service
  • Delivery of the end-to-end commissioning and contracting cycle (identification of suitable placements, contract negotiation and issue, payment of providers and monitoring placement quality), developing new approaches to improve service performance.
  • Work closely with Service Managers and Team Managers in Localities, LAC and others ) to ensure activity related to placements is joined up, capturing and sharing good practice
  • Keep specialist knowledge and expertise up-to-date in order to influence social work practice in the field of commissioning.

 

Key Skills:

  • Strong delivery experience of commissioning
  • strong written report writing skills
  • Social Work Qualified is a preference
  • Previously worked in a local authority
  • Proven ability to work fluidly in ambiguous circumstances
  • Demonstrate  an analytical and strategic approach in previous roles
