Permanent Enterprise DBA and BI Analyst

Venn Group is seeking an experienced DBA with excellent analytical skills to join a top 50 UK University in London. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic, forward thinking IT Services Department that are currently undergoing a series of transitional projects to improve student and staff IT facilities.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining the database portfolio supporting all University business applications across both Oracle and SQL platforms
  • Actively participating in the development of business data exchange projects related to developing new processes and interfaces between business applications and systems
  • Ensuring that the University’s database systems portfolio is consistent with appropriate best practice and compliant with the University’s policies
  • Planning and implementing backup, recovery and high availability of Oracle and SQL solutions
  • Administering database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages and procedures
  • Actively seeking out opportunities to improve and optimise the global infrastructure including use of cloud and virtualization, backup strategy, network devices, security and monitoring
  • Creating and maintaining new and existing database management documentation working closely with the IT engineering team to ensure addition / changes are up to date


The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience and knowledge of Oracle database design, capacity planning, performance tuning, storage management, backup and recovery, schemas, clustering and report generation
  • Strong design, implementation and administration knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server from 2008R2 onwards
  • Excellent T-SQL, PL/SQL and PowerShell/scripting experience
  • Experience working in a complex environment delivering large database projects
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with previous experience using business intelligence and data visualisations tools such as Power BI and Tableau
