Locum Education Lawyer (Part Time) – up to £45 per hour – West Midlands – Remote Working

A successful Local Authority Legal team in the West Midlands is currently recruiting for an Education Lawyer on an ongoing locum basis.

The position is ideally to start ASAP on a part time basis for 2-3 days per week on to be worked remotely. Our client has indicated to us that the Local Authority have no plans to return to the office for the foreseeable future.

The ideal candidate will be a Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive possessing previous Education Law experience gained working within Local Government. The caseload will involve handling Education Law matters to include SEN work and will be primarily dealing with matters in relation to COVID-19.

Duties may include:


  • Conducting SEN and SENDIST work

  • Providing legal advice and assistance to client local authorities in relation to parental appeals to the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability)

  • Drafting the local authority’s submissions

  • Instructing expert witnesses and counsel

  • Corresponding with both the Tribunal and appellant parents or their representatives

  • Providing ad hoc legal advice to client education officers

This role offers an attractive hourly rate of up to £45 per hour (umbrella rate) depending on experience.
