Management Accountant (COVID)

We have a unique opportunity for a Management Accountant. The Financial Management Department, formed of a network of staff based in the organsiation’s operational centres/divisions, is the primary resource for financial management, analysis and decision support.

Please see below a snapshot of the main duties and responsibilities:

  • To assist the Senior Finance Manager to ensure that for all the assigned Directorate activities, relevant financial and non-financial information can be identified, compiled, analysed, measured, interpreted and communicated so that management can satisfactorily evaluate the most appropriate and cost-effective use of resources
  • To prepare monthly financial packs for your area of responsibility. This should include project activity within the assigned area and further enough information to enable the senior managers to carry out their financial responsibilities
  • Control issue of management reports for relevant Department Heads, Project and Cost Centre Managers. Provide further financial information or analysis as required by managers and budget holders
  • Facilitate the preparation of annual financial plans, budgets and in year forecasts for your area of responsibility. Liaise with managers and budget holders to ensure that they are monitored and amended as necessary
  • To act as the initial point of contact for local management and administrative staff with ad-hoc queries relating to any management accounting or project accounting issues, and to ensure that such queries are resolved by working with other finance and non-financial staff across the PHE

Person specification:

  • Ideally a CCAB qualified Accountant
  • Good understanding of management accounting principles, specifically covering budgetary control and costing/pricing issues
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to defend and explain complex financial issues clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Analytical skills and objectivity. Capable with Word & Excel spreadsheets, to enable the maintenance of complex spreadsheets and database models
