Permanent – Principal Childcare Solicitor – £42,126 to £56,932 – East Anglia

 

Venn Group's legal team are recruiting for a Permanent Principal Childcare Solicitorfor a Local Authority based in East Anglia on a full-time, 37 hour per week basis.

 

The successful applicant will manage and lead a team of Lawyers providing innovative and pragmatic legal advice concerning a range of Children’s social care functions alongside a legal caseload including complex and sensitive issues in matters ranging from care proceedings, adoption and litigation.

 

The ideal candidate will be a currently practicing Solicitor or Barrister with experience of working within local government and of conducting proceedings under the Children’s Act 1989, the Adoption and Children Act 2002, judicial reviews and advocacy in the Family Courts, alongside previous management experience.

 

Duties will include:

 

  • Providing legal advice on a range of Childcare matters including care proceedings and adoption to clients including elected members and Senior Officers

  • Attending courts and tribunals undertaking advocacy where required and to also to instruct and manager suppliers of external legal services such as solicitors and barristers

  • Managing a team of Lawyers

  • Managing the performance of the team to include performance, caseloads and productivity, motivation and development, recruitment, selection and appraisals

  • Where required, providing training to clients in specialist areas of law

  • Developing and providing legal input into training courses for a range of professional clients including social care and mental health workers

  • Leading, directing, developing and improving the service to client organisations, predominately in the area of children’s social care to ensure the provision an excellent standard of client care and value for money

  • Acting as a legal advisor to client organisations to ensure awareness of their safeguarding responsibilities and ensure compliance with statutory duties and obligations

  • Liaising with heads of service to ensure that the legal service provided to them meets their needs and is focused on delivering high quality legal services, customer care and service improvements

  • Deputising for the Head of Community Services and Education where required

This role is offering an attractive salary of between £42,126 to £56,932 dependent upon experience.
