World Mental Health Day

This year’s World Mental Health Day focuses on ‘Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World’. Youth and the early years of adulthood are times of concentrated change. Events such as starting a new job and moving to a new location for the first time can be as daunting as they are exciting. As a result, anxiety amongst young people is extremely common. Venn Group is proud to recruit high calibre young people and we recognise our responsibility to help them during this time. In order to support all our employees, we recently partnered with the Employee Assistance Programme, LifeWorks.
Julia Bottles, Global Editorial Director at LifeWorks says:
“Anxiety is a normal part of life, but sometimes it can overwhelm some people, making it difficult to function at work and at home. Teens and young people are no different, and if left untreated, anxiety disorders can cause serious problems.”
LifeWorks offers a 24-hour phone line for all employees to use if they feel they need to speak to someone. Not only reserved for those with concerns on their mental health, there are hundreds of resources available on the app and online on everything from money management, workplace change to first time renting or buying. By supporting young people in these areas and many more, we hope to reduce their stress and prevent a potential escalation into a more serious mental health problem.
If you are concerned about your mental wellbeing, or that of someone else, the most important thing to do is speak to someone you trust. This could be a friend, family member or one of LifeWorks’ dedicated counsellors.
We hope that the momentum of mental health awareness continues, so that fewer people suffer in silence in the future.
