Employer supported and skilled volunteering

Faces of young people

Volunteers’ week is a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and to say thank you.

Today, 3rd June, has been given the theme of recognising employer supported and skilled volunteering. So, we would like to take the opportunity to firstly thank our volunteers and also highlight the brilliant work of our charity partner, Young Women’s Trust.

We have been working with Young Women’s Trust since 2017 using our skills as recruiters to assist with their CV Work It Out programme. Through this connection we are able to help young women be their best self when applying for jobs. During the crisis, this sector of society has been badly affected and so more than ever this service has been called upon as individuals look to change careers, up skill or re-engage with the employment market.

Our volunteers chose to get involved as they wish to use the skills they have learnt as professional recruiters to impact individuals who don’t have access to this kind of support. Charlotte Dickinson, when asked why she volunteers recalls her own experience. She said, “A friend helped me start at Venn Group after six months of not securing anything on my own and gave me some advice on my CV which I am forever grateful for.” We hope by supporting this service we can be that “friend”. As Ashley Dean says “I think volunteering for the CV service not only provides practical help in the way of making CV amendments or improvements, but also helps to improve the confidence of some of the women using the service. Knowing I’m helping to make a difference to people’s lives is amazing and I hope the women who use this service feel empowered to apply for their dream jobs and go out into the workplace and do a fantastic job!”.

Venn Group’s social value initiative, Empowering Employment centres around our belief of employment for all and volunteering provides the opportunity to share with people ideas and skills they can take away to help them articulate their experience and value.

Thank you to all our volunteers and to Young Women’s Trust for your amazing work and enthusiasm.

“We are so grateful for the support of amazing volunteers from Venn Group who help hundreds of young women to make their CVs and job applications the best they can possibly be.

Having the friendly encouragement and expert advice of a recruitment professional makes a huge difference, especially at a time when the world of work feels so uncertain.”
