Business Support Officer – Highways Procurement
Contract Length: 3-6 months initially with possibility of extension
Rate of Pay: Negotiable (Umbrella Inside IR35)
Location: Bedfordshire
Working Pattern/Onsite Requirements: 2 days per week onsite
Our client is looking for an experienced Business Support Officer to provide high-quality administrative and procurement support to the Highways service, supporting tendering activity, contract administration, and supplier management
Key Responsibilities:
- Support highways procurement exercises, including tender documentation, supplier queries, evaluations, and contract administration
- Monitor project milestones, actions, and key timelines, working closely with internal stakeholders and external providers
- Maintain contract registers, procurement pipelines, and supplier documentation
- Provide financial and commercial support, including purchase orders, budget/spend monitoring, and payment processing
- Coordinate meetings, site visits, and supplier engagement activity
- Support performance, audit, and compliance reporting, including FOI documentation
Candidate Criteria:
- Experience providing business or administrative support within procurement or a local authority environment
- Good understanding of procurement processes and contract administration
- Strong IT, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to handle confidential commercial information
- Highly organised, detail-focused, and able to manage competing priorities
- Experience within highways or construction
- Knowledge of Public Contracts Regulations
