Interim Commissioner for Older People
Based in London, hybrid working
Length: 3 months
IR35 status: Inside
Rate: £450 per day via an umbrella company
We’re looking for an experienced and innovative Older People’s Commissioner. This is a pivotal role, leading on the commissioning of older people’s services, including residential care, extra care, and homecare services.
You’ll lead the implementation of the Older People’s Strategy, steering the action plan and coordinating efforts across established groups.
Key Responsibilities of the Interim Commissioner for Older People:
- Lead on complex commissioning and transformation projects within Adult Social Care, focusing on services for older people and carers
- Recommission Extra Care, Homefirst, Reablement, and long-term Homecare services, and review D2A bed pathways
- Deliver end-to-end commissioning activities in line with our strategic health and social care outcomes
- Organise and deliver market engagement activities with internal colleagues and external partners
- Oversee the design and implementation of innovative services for older people
- Monitor and evaluate commissioned services to identify gaps and drive sustainable change
Skills, experience and knowledge required of the Interim Commissioner for Older People:
Essential experience:
- Proven track record in strategic commissioning of Extra Care and Homecare services within a local authority
- Ability to work in partnership across local authorities, the Integrated Care Partnership, and voluntary/ statutory sectors
- Experience facilitating change and transformation in complex organisations
Qualifications:
- Degree-level education (or equivalent experience) with specialist knowledge in commissioning or adult social care
- Membership of a relevant professional body
