We are currently working with a Local Authority in South Wales who is looking for a Committees Officer to join the team to assist the day to day running under the Democratic Services Manager.
The Committees Officer will be responsible for organising and attending internal and external meetings, preparing committee minutes and following up on actions, as well as ongoing liaison with the chair and committee members regarding committee business.
Job: Committees Officer
Duration: 3 months initially, likely to extend to 6 months
Rate: Up to £35ph via Umbrella Company
Site presence: Predominantly remote working, irregular site attendance would be desirable but not essential
Role Details
- Provide administrative support and advice for the effective delivery of the Council’s decision-making processes, in liaison with the Democratic Services Manager
- Responsible for meeting scheduling, meeting arrangements, agenda and paper management, minuting of meetings and following up of agreed actions
- Project managing the agenda management process for the Committees, collate all committee reports and other papers and oversee the issue of the final agenda
- Organise and attend Committee meetings (virtual)
- Research and prepare reports on behalf of Democratic Services as required to support the work of the Committees and other bodies for which the Committee Officer is responsible
- Undertake various other administrative duties which fall within the responsibility of Democratic Services as required such as Elections, Community Councils etc
Requirement
- Knowledge of local authority context, including statutory framework and governance structures
- Experience of committee administration or equivalent processes
- Ability to analyse issues and produce and present a variety of reports and minutes
- Accuracy and attention to detail in the preparation of written work
- Excellent communication and organisation skills
- Experience of working with minimum supervision in an environment of change and challenge and ability to hit the ground running
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office – especially Outlook, Word and Excel
- Must have experience working within a Local Authority
