Corporate Accountant

A position has arisen for a Corporate Accountant for Milton Keynes Council. This is a key role for 4-6 months assisting with the closure of accounts, including producing working papers, accruals, reconciliations and dealing with auditors. This role is paying £18.90 PAYE, £24.50 Umbrella and inside IR35.
Duties Include:
- The role will ensure all reconciliations are complete and all entries are posted monthly. They will manage the grants register, ensuring all income is received and correctly posted
- Prepare revenue disclosures and evidenced accounting entries for corporate disclosures. Review working papers provided by service teams. Review of all balance sheet entries and provide management of audit queries from external audit, ensuring responses are timely and complete
- The role will be responsible for preparation of FOI returns, preparation of information for the website and ensuring Transparency data is published
- The role will provide support and team resilience to the Corporate Accountant -VAT, assisting in the completion of VAT returns for both the Council and MKDP, HMRC and audit queries, and provision of VAT advice
The successful candidate should have:
- Qualified accountant (CCAB) or in final year (with a commitment to finish) and evidence of appropriate CPD
- Excellent spreadsheet skills and ability to undertake complex financial calculations using different data sets and systems (financial, case management etc.)
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the CIPFA code of practice and a strong financial accounting background
- Be able to explain complicated and technical information in a manner that can be understood by others with different levels of knowledge on the subject.
- Must have strong communication skills to enable preparation of presentations and report writing including statement of accounts and audit reports, and liaison with external stakeholders e.g. external audit
