Development Manager
Make a Real Difference Through Strategic Placemaking
Are you passionate about creating vibrant places and unlocking development potential where the commercial market falls short? Join our Housing and Regeneration Team and play a pivotal role in transforming the West Midlands through complex, high-impact regeneration projects.
This isn't just about unit delivery – it's about strategic placemaking that creates lasting community impact. You'll work on everything from £100m town centre regeneration schemes to complex developments that wouldn't typically secure funding through traditional routes.
What You'll Be Doing
Development Appraisals & Due Diligence
- Review and assess development funding applications for residential schemes, town centre regeneration, BTR, and extra care projects
- Conduct detailed due diligence including reviewing appraisals, assessing GDV and projected costs, and evaluating cost assumptions
- Make evidence-based recommendations on grant funding decisions
- Commission external due diligence when appropriate
- Focus on projects that have stalled or require public intervention to move forward
- Produce clear, analytical reports to support investment decisions
Stakeholder & Pipeline Development
- Build and maintain relationships with local authorities and partners to understand emerging opportunities
- Help shape and grow our project pipeline through proactive business development
- Meet with local authority partners in person at least once monthly
- Navigate competing stakeholder priorities with political awareness
What We're Looking For
- Strong attention to detail and confidence working with numbers
- Experience analysing development appraisals and understanding funding structures
- Comfortable working independently and making informed decisions
- Ability to write clear, evidence-based reports
- Politically aware with ability to navigate competing stakeholder priorities
Why You'll Love This Role
- Meaningful Impact: Work on complex projects that create genuine public benefit and transform communities
- Diverse Portfolio: From major town centre schemes to innovative housing solutions the market wouldn't typically fund alone
- Collaborative Environment: Join a supportive team of six with varied backgrounds, reporting to the Head of Development and Delivery
- Professional Growth: Opportunity to develop expertise in a unique area where public and private sectors meet
- Strategic Influence: Be part of a team that gets things off the ground and makes a real difference
