Interim Director of Commissioning
Based in North London, hybrid working
Length: 6-Months (Potential for extension)

We’re working with a North London local authority to appoint an experienced Director of Commissioning to lead integrated health and adult social care commissioning across the borough. This is a critical leadership role with strategic influence over service design, provider partnerships, and financial planning — driving person-centred, outcome-focused solutions for residents.
Key Responsibilities of the Interim Director of Commissioning:
- Provide strategic leadership for all commissioning across health and adult social care
- Lead the integrated commissioning team and manage pooled/integrated budgets under formal partnership arrangements
- Drive delivery of statutory responsibilities and strategic objectives set out in the Health and Wellbeing Strategy
- Oversee transformation programmes and deliver innovative commissioning solutions aligned with population needs
- Collaborate with NHS partners, the voluntary sector, and internal stakeholders to deliver joined-up, high-quality services
- Ensure all services are person-centred, inclusive, and compliant with relevant legislation and council priorities
- Hold accountability for performance, value for money, contract outcomes, and continuous service improvement
Skills, experience and knowledge required of the Interim Director of Commissioning:
- Proven leadership experience in strategic commissioning across adult social care, health, or integrated systems
- Deep understanding of commissioning frameworks, partnership governance, and pooled budget management
- Strong ability to drive transformation, quality improvement, and value for money across complex systems
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement at a senior level, including with Members, NHS, and voluntary sector partners
