Head of Adults

We're working on an interim opportunity for an experienced Head of Service in Adults, specialising in Learning Disabilities to join a Local Authority based in the South West

Role details:

Rate: £650 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: 3–6 months

Commitment: 37 hours per week

Working pattern: Hybrid (around 2 days per week in the office, remainder remote)

This is a senior leadership role providing both strategic and operational oversight of adult social care services, with a strong focus on learning disabilities

The postholder will:

• Drive service improvements and shape strategic outcomes
• Lead workforce development and ensure high standards of practice
• Provide expert guidance on complex decisions and safeguarding matters
• Oversee performance, budgets, and resource management to deliver statutory services effectively
• Strengthen partnerships with health, voluntary, and community stakeholders
• Contribute to strategic planning, early help, and prevention strategies
• Deputise for senior leaders when required and influence wider service direction

What we’re looking for:

• Significant leadership experience within adult social care
• Strong track record of delivering improvements, managing budgets, and leading complex teams
• Experience in safeguarding adults and children, including engagement with safeguarding boards
• Experience at this senior level working within a Local Authority
• Degree-level qualification and a Diploma in Social Work/CQSW
