Interim Highways Quantity Surveyor
Support a Local Authority in the East of England (just outside London) as part of their Highways team, providing essential commercial and contractual expertise across a portfolio of infrastructure and improvement schemes. This role is ideal for an experienced QS with strong NEC contract knowledge and a background in highways or civil engineering.
Start: ASAP
Duration: 3–6 Months Initially
Rate: Negotiable Day Rate (Inside/Outside IR35 via Umbrella)
Location: East of England / Hybrid Working
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage cost estimates, valuations, interim payments, and final accounts for highways projects
• Provide robust commercial advice and ensure compliance with NEC contract conditions and council governance
• Monitor project budgets and produce accurate financial and commercial reports for senior stakeholders
• Support procurement activity, tender evaluations, and supplier/contractor negotiations
• Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks across the project lifecycle
• Ensure adherence to statutory, contractual, and health & safety obligations
Requirements:
• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor on highways or civil engineering projects
• Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts and public sector procurement processes
• Excellent financial management, budgeting, and cost‑control capabilities
• Strong stakeholder engagement and supplier management skills
• Analytical mindset with effective problem‑solving abilities
The portfolio includes a range of highways improvement schemes and infrastructure upgrades across the region.
