Interim Housing Standards Officer

Based in the South East, on site working, Inside IR35

Length: 3 months

We are supporting a District Council in the South East to engage with a professional Environmental Health Officer to join their Housing Standards Team.

You will have hands on involvement in improving housing conditions, supporting vulnerable residents and contributing to a high‑performing environmental health service.

Key Responsibilities of the Housing Standards Officer:

• Lead on the administration of Disabled Facility Grants and investigate housing complaints
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and managers to help the Housing Standards Team deliver high‑quality, customer‑focused services
• Inspecting properties to assess the feasibility and suitability of proposed adaptations in line with the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 and associated regulations
• Providing clear advice and guidance to homeowners, tenants, landlords, Occupational Therapists, Social Services, Planning and Building Control
• Identifying and exploring practical alternatives where recommended adaptations are not reasonable or practicable

Skills, experience and knowledge required of the Housing Standards Officer:

• Qualification (e.g. BTEC, HND) in surveying, Environmental Health or another Housing related subject
• High level of literacy and numeracy
• Knowledgeable in housing legislation, HMO licensing, and environmental health principles
