Information Governance Officer
Hertfordshire
£250-300 per day (umbrella)
3-6 month contract with potential extension
Duties
- Manage Data Subject Access requests and write Freedom of Information/Environmental Information Regulations and Data Protection Act responses on behalf of service teams
- Identify, assess and apply any applicable exemption(s) that allows the council to withhold information from disclosure
- Supervise and work with departments to gather all relevant information using relevant service unit case management systems and technologies
- Manage and maintain the Council’s Data Privacy Platform, GDPR Supplier Assurance and Freedom of Information technologies, supporting services use of technologies and providing all relevant training
- Ensure correct information is issued out and perform any necessary redactions with relevant assessments undertaken
- Provide, collate and maintain required statistics/figures for all information access requests reported to executive officers, elected members and published on the council’s website
- Manage and maintain the IG service Data Protection privacy platform and produce reports and data
- Lead on investigation of complaints with review and processing of inquires, collation and gathering of evidence, contacting relevant service officers, managers and service users, writing responses and recording complaints with support from the Information & Records Governance Manager and Legal services
- Deputise for the Information & Records Governance Manager when acting as Data Protection Officer for the council, attending local, regional and national policy meetings and completing related statutory related tasks
- Deliver corporate data protection training and workshops for staff across the council
- Information Governance meeting forums
Requirements
- Experience working in public sector organisations – especially councils/NHS bodies
- Possess excellent knowledge and experience managing FOIs & SAR requests, with experience drafting responses
- Must have knowledge of relevant Information Rights legislation such as the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and UKGDPR /Data Protection (DP) 2018
- Completion of related FOI/DP tasks such as maintenance of Council’s Disclosure Log, Publication Scheme and managing requests using relevant technologies, to obtain and collate required information from council service teams
- Managing teams’ completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments and other data protection related tasks, providing support to teams
- Management of service team mailboxes and filing case correspondences as required
