Interim Head of Communications
Based: London (hybrid working)
Length: 9-12 months initially

We are supporting one of our local authority clients to recruit an Interim Head of Communications, who will join the arms-length development company which undertakes a range of communications activities to promote and raise visibility of the contribution it makes to regeneration in the borough.
Key Responsibilities of the interim Head of Communications include:
- Being the lead professional for external and internal communications, marketing, and public relations/publicity
- Acting as principal point of contact for engagement between the Council and the arms-length company in relation to communications, marketing and promotional activity as appropriate, media and press engagement
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to develop, promote and embed the company’s brand
- Liaising with the Finance Director and members of the Senior Management Team, and acting as lead commissioner for additional support in relation to communications activities, as and when required
- Manage and/or supervise junior support staff (e.g. apprentices) to ensure support for communications activities is effective, and that individuals providing communications support grow and develop in their capabilities and their roles
Skills and experience required of the interim Head of Communications:
- Significant experience successfully delivering strategic communications, marketing and promotional activities, campaigns and initiatives
- Established track record of successfully commissioning and/or delivering a range of communications activities to a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences
- Excellent planning and organisation skills with demonstrable project management skills and deliver a range of complex activities and priorities
- Significant experience with successfully building relationships to positively influence thinking and behaviour in a complex organisation
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of marketing and communications practices and principles relevant to the role and the sectors the organisation operates within (including public sector and local government)
