Interim Planning Policy Manager
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Interim Planning Policy Manager to lead our Planning Policy Team during a critical transition period. This is a senior-level role, equivalent to Assistant Director, and offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of planning policy in our district.

Duration: 6 Months Initially
Rate: Negotiable dependent on experience (Inside IR35)
Hybrid Working Arrangement – 2 days per week in Derbyshire
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the sole lead officer for Planning Policy within the council
- Review and progress the Local Plan, including Regulation 18 and 19 consultations in 2026, and manage submission by December 2026
- Oversee the SPD masterplan for a major 1,500-home housing and employment site, from consultation (Jan/Feb 2026) to adoption (March 2026)
- Represent the Planning Policy Team in all external engagements with Councillors, Committees, Residents, and Stakeholders
- Manage consultancy contracts
- Lead and support a team of up to 4 professional planners
Essential Requirements
- MRTPI qualified
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in Planning Policy, ideally with Local Plan leadership
- Strong technical expertise in Local Plans and planning regulations
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Driving licence and ability to travel within the district
