Interim Senior Accountant
Based in London, hybrid working
Length: 2-3 months, with possibility of extension
Inside IR35
Rate: £350 per day Umbrella (Inside IR35)
One of our London Local Authorities is looking for an interim Senior Accountant to support Children and Young People’s Team (CYPS) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Team (SEND).
Key Responsibilities of the Interim Senior Accountant:
- To co-ordinate and control the day-to-day aspects of the finance functions within the allocated service areas, and to develop and recommend solutions to problems or issues affecting services
- To oversee and manage the accounts of distinct service areas and their key financial processes, including budget setting, in-year monitoring and closure of accounts, ensuring that significant issues are raised with senior management with recommendations for corrective action
- To provide professional and flexible financial support and accountancy advice to senior management across a range of council services to support the Council’s strategic plans, and to liase with external parties to complete grant claims and other funding claims
- To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive integrated finance service supporting all council departments, senior managers, members, committees and forums
- To undertake the technical and professional functions in accordance with CIPFA guidelines, Council standing orders and financial regulations and other policies and procedures
Skills, experience and knowledge required of the Interim Senior Accountant:
- Qualified Accounting Technician or relevant experience
- Experience of working in local government finance, or in a similar complex public or private sector organisation and able to evidence an understanding of local government issues, and how they impact on finance
- Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel/Power BI and able to use more advanced functionality to quickly manipulate large volumes of data and present them in a straightforward manner
