An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Legal Counsel to join the in-house legal team of a major UK infrastructure organisation. This role sits within a high-profile programme delivering one of the largest and most complex construction projects in Europe.
The postholder will provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice across a wide range of matters, with a particular emphasis on major contracts and procurement. The role offers exposure to large-scale, high-value agreements and the opportunity to work closely with procurement, commercial and senior stakeholders across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
• Drafting, negotiating and advising on complex commercial and construction contracts, including NEC and JCT forms
• Supporting major public procurements and advising on risk allocation and contract strategy
• Advising on contract interpretation, variations, claims and dispute avoidance
• Managing external legal advisers and supporting dispute resolution where required
• Producing clear legal advice and briefings for senior stakeholders and governance forums
• Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary in-house environment on high-value, high-profile projects
About you:
• Qualified solicitor or barrister
• Experience of commercial contracts and/or construction or infrastructure work
• Comfortable handling high-value, complex matters and running your own workload
• Exposure to public sector procurement and major projects is highly advantageous
• In-house experience is useful but not essential
• Pragmatic, resilient and commercially minded, with the confidence to advise at pace
This role would suit lawyers from private practice, in-house, public sector bodies or the supply chain who are excited by major projects, large-scale procurement and meaningful, long-term work.
