Legal Services Manager – Civil and Business
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council seek a talented Lawyer to lead their Legal Services Team. This senior role will see you leading on the strategy of the legal directorate whilst ensuring the smooth running of the Civil and Business legal team.
As a key member of the Senior Management Team, you will drive strategic initiatives and shape the future of the Council’s legal services. This will involve working closely with the Assistant Director and senior managers to implement the division’s Transformation Agenda.
The position would ideally be suited to an experienced solicitor or barrister, with a with a passion for nurturing talent and inspiring high-performance teams and who is experienced in leadership and management.
Leading and managing is central to this role. It can be a demanding job but is very rewarding. You should be able to prioritise and make decisions under pressure whilst thinking clearly to ensure successful outcomes.

Responsibilities:
Oversee legal operations within the Civil and Business team
Strategically plan and implement directorate business strategies
Guide and supervise complex legal work spanning housing, employment, civil litigation
Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders, providing expert counsel and strategic direction
Drive compliance with legal standards, legislative requirements, and internal policies
Foster a culture of knowledge management, sharing best practices, and continuous improvement
Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and efficient resource allocation
Represent the Council in external engagements and forge strong partnerships with industry peers
Experience:
Qualified solicitor or barrister with a minimum of 5 years' PQE
Knowledge of housing, employment, civil litigation, and other related legal domains
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
Financial acumen and experience in managing budgets effectively
At least 12 months management experience
