Linux Systems Administrator
Venn Group is working with a great public sector organisation in London who are looking for a Linux Systems Administrator on a permanent basis to help provide high quality IT services for the Linux Infrastructure meeting the requirements of the department.
Day rate: £56,000
Location: London (2 days on site per week)

Job responsibilities include:
- Provide a secure and reliable service for the IT Linux Infrastructure team for all staff
- Support and further develop a highly available, well-maintained Kubernetes platform for the use of staff
- Manage the Linux infrastructure for the computational teaching services including Hadoop Big Data, GPU computing environment and OpenShift/OKD cluster
- Troubleshooting hardware and software problems, diagnosing performance bottlenecks, analysing log files, and utilising various Linux command-line tools for system monitoring and debugging
- Manage the existing Kubernetes platform, monitoring its performance and availability
- Planning for scaling of the platform including cost/usage modelling and development of policies
- Scheduling of maintenance windows and monitoring the external environment for emerging security threats
- Provide support, configuration and development of the web services of the staff
- Package management and update deployment of Redhat Linux systems using automated processes
- Troubleshooting with end-users and other key IT staff
- Documentation and training end-users and other administrators including formalisation of first line support procedures
Candidates must have:
- Have a strong understanding of the Linux operating system, including its architecture, file system, command-line interface (CLI), and shell scripting
- Be familiar with standard Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, CentOS, or Debian and be comfortable navigating and configuring Linux environments
- Experience with troubleshooting hardware and software problems, diagnosing performance bottlenecks, analysing log files, and utilising various Linux command-line tools for system monitoring and debugging
- Possess an Understanding networking concepts like IP addressing, routing, firewalls, and DNS is crucial for managing network connectivity and troubleshooting issues
Experience of managing a containerised computing platform (e.g. OpenShift, OKD Clusters, SUSE CaaS)
