Linux Systems Engineer required immediately

Location: Aberystwyth (hybrid/remote)

Contract length: 6 months +

Rate: £200 - £300 per day via umbrella DOE

Pattern: Mon – Fri, 9 – 5 (Flexi hours)

Venn Group are pleased to be working alongside a leading Welsh educational institution who are looking for a Linux Systems Engineer to join their IT team. The successful candidate will have experience with Linux, preferably Debian derivatives, macOS and Windows, as well as experience with virtualisation software.

Day-to-day duties:

• Maintaining and administering Linux server/clients and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations
• Designing, configuring, and testing software, hardware, and operating system software and deployment technologies
• Managing all endpoint configuration and security Managing all endpoint configuration and security
• Perform installation and maintenance tasks on Linux infrastructure
• Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning, and implementing security measures
• Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems
• Monitoring performance to determine if adjustments need to be made
• Conferring with the team, service desk and system users about solving existing system problems 
• Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required 
• Produce documentation relating to work, build procedures for example 
• Provide training, mentoring and support to other team members

Essential requirements:

• Experience with Linux, preferably Debian derivatives, macOS and Windows system admin 
• Fluency in one or more of the following: Python, Perl, Bash, or PowerShell 
• Exposure to containerisation technologies, Kubernetes, Docker, and OpenShift 
• High level of competency in MS Excel and visualisation products, primarily Tableau 
• Experience with Virtualisation such as VMWare Workstation, ESXi and vSphere
