Locum Employment Lawyer

Venn Group are working with a respected local authority in the North of England to recruit a Locum Employment Lawyer. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a broad range of employment law matters in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor, barrister or FCILEx with experience in Employment Law (public sector experience advantageous).

Start: ASAP

Duration: 3 month rolling basis

Working Arrangement: Full-time, hybrid (2 days per week in office preferred)

Rate: £50-55 per hour, umbrella

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a varied caseload of employment matters from instruction through to resolution
• Advise HR teams, senior managers, and elected members on the full spectrum of employment law issues
• Handle internal processes including disciplinary, grievance, and dismissal matters
• Support and represent the authority in employment tribunals (primarily remote; occasional in-person attendance)
• Advise on settlement agreements, redundancy, TUPE transfers, pensions, and equality issues
• Prepare legal documents and provide practical, solution-focused guidance to stakeholders
