Locum Head of Service (Democratic Services, Elections & Governance) £500+ per day (Umbrella) - 3 months - Hybrid/Remote

Venn Group’s specialist legal team are currently working with a Local Authority who are seeking an experienced Head of Service to oversee their Democratic Services, Elections, and Governance functions on an interim basis.

This is a leadership position within the Council, responsible for managing and developing a small team. You will provide strategic direction across key governance areas, ensuring the smooth operation and continual improvement of the Democratic Services function.

The Role:

Position: Locum Head of Service (Democratic Services, Elections & Governance)

Duration: Initial 3+ months with the possibility for extension

Rate: £500+ per day (umbrella)

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as Head of Service for Democratic Services, Elections, and Governance
• Streamline and enhance the Democratic Services function
• Work closely with the Deputy Monitoring Officer to ensure robust governance arrangements
• Provide expert advice and support to Senior Elected Members and Officers
• Oversee the effective delivery of meetings, committees, and electoral processes

About You:

• Proven experience leading within Democratic or Governance Services
• Strong understanding of Local Government structures and statutory responsibilities
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
