Summary/Job Purpose: Reporting directly to the Head of Client Services, the Operational Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing a wide range of operational tax activities for the group's entities in Europe, serving as the primary point of contact within the business. This role includes managing client tax reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant tax regulations, and mitigating tax-related risks. The Operational Tax Manager will work closely with management to establish and implement operational tax standards while fostering consistency across the region.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and assistance to the business on the application of the Qualified Intermediary ("QI") regime, including conducting QI health checks and periodic reviews
- Advise and assist the business in meeting compliance and reporting obligations under FATCA and CRS
- Offer customer and operational tax advice to the business and resolve operational tax queries
- Effectively identify, report, and address emerging and present tax-related risks
- Review operational tax obligations, assess compliance, and provide guidance on the target operating model
- Prepare and maintain documentation related to governance, processes, and procedures
- Advise the business on the format and content of client tax reporting
- Cultivate a risk-aware culture that facilitates ongoing risk management related to client taxation, tax reporting, and anti-avoidance measures
Competencies:
- Technical/Qualifications: A qualified tax professional with substantial operational tax experience, either from a large practice's operational tax team or a similar in-house role
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in information reporting.
- Strong technical knowledge of FATCA, CRS, and IRS QI requirements, including familiarity with IRS regulations and related guidance, with a specific focus on information reporting and withholding. Good knowledge of MDR and CCO regimes and global withholding tax requirements
- Strong understanding and knowledge of operational tax principles and processes within a financial services organization
- Good working knowledge of Capital Gains Tax and its impact on the group's clients
- Experience with client tax reporting, including familiarity with the format and content of Composite Tax Vouchers
- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement, identify service improvement initiatives, and work well under pressure while collaborating across business areas to creatively solve problems
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues and prepare clear briefing documents
- Results-oriented, able to manage expectations, and willing to take on responsibility
- Strong business focus combined with strategic and commercial awareness
Systems/Internal Processes:
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Package. Experience with Avaloq is advantageous
Regulatory Awareness/Compliance:
- Current knowledge of relevant FCA regulations
