Job Title: Principle Mechanical Engineer
We are currently recruiting for a Principle Mechanical Engineer within a leading University based in Manchester. This is a key role within the University and will be on an ongoing temporary to permanent contract
Duties will include:
- To manage a team of mechanical engineers and other technical staff, in the development and monitoring of cost effective LTM, PPM & reactive maintenance schemes across buildings and infrastructure.
- Establish and maintain standard specifications for both new installations and maintenance activities as appropriate
- Conduct or commission an ongoing programme of mechanical condition surveys to assist in the development of a long-term maintenance plan.
- Design, implement and maintain policies that ensure mechanical maintenance procurement is carried out in a manner that meets legislative, statutory, safety requirements, good practice, and is cost effective.
- The post holder, when directed will deputise for the Head of Facilities – Maintenance & Compliance
- Manage and control any delegated budgets ensuring expenditure and income are monitored and controlled in accordance with delegated authority and in accordance with the University’s Financial Regulations
- Undertake Health & Safety requirements for the Mechanical team, ensuring that requirements are collectively understood and implemented consistently, incorporating up-to-date legal compliance and best practice in line with the Directorate’s policy and procedures.
- Direct the Mechanical sections of the Directorate of Estates and Facilities Design Teams Guide
Essential skills / qualifications:
- Appropriate academic qualification to Degree level in a Mechanical or Building Services Engineering related discipline.
- Be a Chartered Engineer and hold Professional Chartered Membership of CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent Professional Institution.
- An established track record and experience in Mechanical engineering management across a wide portfolio of building types.
- Experience setting and monitoring standards in respect to mechanical building services systems.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- Health and Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Certificate)
- Trainer-training qualification or proven understanding of principles through experience
- Awareness of environmental sustainability as it applies to the activities of a workplace and its employees
- Awareness of Health & Safety, Equality Diversity and Inclusion, and Information Governance as applicable to the workplace and its employees
