Senior Collection Officer

Our client, a well-respected local authority in Devon, is looking for a temporary Senior Rent Collection Officer to join their team in collecting Rent, Council Tax, Housing Benefit Overpayments, Garage Rent, Former Tenancy Arrears and Rechargeable Repairs
Locations: Devon (Hybrid / Remote working)
Duration: 8 Months +
Hours: 37 (Mon – Fri)
Rate: £15.65 via Umbrella

Day to day responsibilities include:
- Collect Rent, Former Tenancy Arrears, Garage Charges, Rechargeable Repairs, Council Tax, and Housing Benefit Overpayments, and in doing so, case work multi debt cases and more complex customers
- Deal daily with queries received as a result of recovery action being taken on cases that have fallen into arrears, for all the above listed areas
- Monitor cases in arrears daily, and where appropriate, initiate escalation of recovery action in accordance with statutory regulations, legislation and case law
- Contact customers in the early stages of arrears by telephone, letter, email, face to face at the council’s offices & home/off site visits to discuss circumstances and payment arrangements
- Initiate the most serious recovery action available to recover the debt to the Council, including seeking Possession Orders and Evictions
- Protect and maximise the council’s income
- Support customers to find sustainable ways to meet their debts to the council
- Proactively assist the management team in improving services and raising collection levels
Essential job requirements:
- A current enhanced DBS
- IRRV Level 3 Diploma in Local Taxation, Benefits and Advice (QCF) or equivalent diploma, or substantial proven equivalent experience
