Interim SEN Advisor – School Improvement
Location: London (remote working, flexible)
Status: Inside IR35

We are looking for an interim SEN Advisor to oversee the provision of specialist advice, classroom support and training for teachers in relation to SEN, inclusion and sensory and physical disability needs in a busy SEN department of a London Local Authority.
Key Responsibilities of the SEN Advisor – School Improvement:
- Oversee the provision of specialist advice, classroom support and training for teachers in relation to SEN, inclusion and sensory and physical disability needs
- Provide leadership and management support to specialist teachers and practitioners who support children with physical and sensory disabilities, their families and schools
- Provide effective support and challenge to Headteachers and other senior leaders with respect to school improvement and standards / provision to manage the statutory LA function for assessments of SEND including Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP)
- Co-ordinate support and development opportunities for SEN teachers and SENCOs new to the profession
- Work in partnership with the Senior Adviser and other teams across Children’s Services to assure effectiveness of educational provision and improve outcomes for all pupils through support for ECTs, SEN teachers and SENCOs
- To be responsible for the SEN advice and support provided to all schools in relation to sensory and physical disabilities to all providers
Skills and experience required of the SEN Advisor – School Improvement:
- Experience of working in administration and the ability to manage work successfully
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of SEN legislation and guidance
- Experience of working with children / young people with SEN / disabilities
- Substantial and successful experience of leading and developing a differentiated curriculum in one or more schools / LA, which has led to an improvement in outcomes
- Working knowledge of the key elements of school improvement, including planning, handling and interpreting data, monitoring and evaluation impact
- Successful experience of planning, designing and delivering training and development opportunities for teachers/practitioners and or support staff
- A degree or comparable level qualification (NVQ4 or equivalent); a teaching qualification or equivalent professional qualification
