Senior Litigation Solicitor – South Wales – Full Time - Permanent
Venn Group’s specialist Public Sector Legal recruitment team is pleased to be assisting a Local Authority in South Wales to appoint a new Senior Litigation Solicitor to join their team on a permanent basis.
This is a full time position, however requests for part time hours will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Some hybrid working is required for attendance at Court and face-to-face meetings. Otherwise, the position can be worked remotely.
The successful candidate will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with substantial post-qualification experience in at least two of the below areas of law, preferably gained within a Local Authority:
- Civil litigation
- Criminal litigation
- Judicial and statutory review
- Employment law
- Housing law
- Environmental law
- Social care law
- Planning enforcement
This role will involve managing a small team. Prior management experience is desired but not essential.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
- Effectively managing a caseload comprising a range of complex litigation matters across a variety of areas of law, including civil and criminal litigation, judicial and statutory review and proceedings in tribunals and inquiries
- Providing legal advice and support to Council committees, including the Licensing Committee, and attending Council and committee meetings as required
- Providing prompt, effective and user-friendly legal advice to a range of Council service areas
- Negotiating on behalf of and resolving disputes involving the Council as required
- Proactively providing support to other Council service areas, including the provision of appropriate training and legal updates
- Being responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Litigation team and ensuring that it operates in accordance with the priorities of the Legal Services Department and the Council as a whole
- Overseeing and holding responsibility for the conduct of all work undertaken by the Litigation team including ensuring that work is delegated within the team effectively and is carried out promptly and to a high standard
- Being responsible for the day-to-day management of the staff within the Litigation team, to include the carrying out of appraisals, identifying training needs and encouraging the professional development of members of the team
- Assisting and contributing towards the development and review of Service Level Agreements for the work undertaken by the Section and providing input on Service planning when required
A Grade 12 salary of between £49,498 - £52,750 is offered for this role, alongside a comprehensive range of benefits and a flexible working policy.
