We currently have two exciting opportunities for experienced SEND Caseworkers to join a south-east London based local authority on an interim basis.
You will be responsible for assessing and reviewing the special educational needs of the London Borough’s pupils, including the shared supervision and development of staff to understand SEN within the service.
We have one full-time position available and one part-time position available (2/3 days a week depending on workload). Please see below for further details:
Responsibilities:
- Meet with parents, advocates and professional agencies at a range of locations to represent the LEA and to negotiate appropriate provision to meet children's needs.
- Work with parents in assessing and monitoring statements of special educational need/ Education, Health and Social Care Plans, encouraging, participation and engagement in processes.
- Share responsibility for the supervision and development of including the shared supervision and development of staff to understand SEN within the service.
- Brief the SEN assessment manager and panel members on proposed pupil placements, costs and travel assistance implications
- Process applications for assisted transport and make arrangements and resolve any issues for pupils with special educational need.
- Issue revised drafts, final or revised final statements of special educational needs/ Education, Health and Care Plans following the decisions of the SEN panel.
- Represent the LA at annual reviews as necessary, and to contribute to the formal process by providing schools, parents and professionals with advice.
- Liaise with the admissions team to ensure that the SEN Team has access to up-to-date information about vacancies in schools and specialist units.
- Assist in the assessment and carrying out of training and development needs of officers.
- Manage the phase transfer of pupils with SEN and the onward transfer at the end of statutory education to other specialist services where necessary.
Requirements:
- Previous experience within a Local Government environment is essential for this position
- DBS will need to be completed before start date- we can process one for you if you don’t currently have one on the update service
