Armed Forces Day - Show your support

Armed forces dayt

We are proud to be one of only three recruitment consultancies UK wide to hold the Silver Employer recognition scheme for the Armed Forces Covenant. Our commitment to the armed forces reflects the fantastic contribution our serving personnel, veterans and their families can make to any organisation. This Saturday is Armed Forces Day, a chance for all to show their support for the individuals who make up the Armed Forces community and an opportunity for us to highlight and endorse the fantastic talent pool this group represents.

The British military is renowned for the quality of its people and the training undertaken at every stage of their careers. From the day a recruit joins they are exposed to a constant drumbeat of courses that will improve their professional competencies and personal qualities. This investment teaches technical, management and leadership skills which are valuable and sought after when transitioning to the civilian job market. We are privileged to have supported many individuals during this process and our clients have reaped the rewards of their expertise. We asked two of our recent veteran placements to comment:

“After a series of heart issues, I was medically discharged from the Royal Marines at the end of 2019. My career took a new turn as I focused on learning the required skills for entering the cyber security industry. The extensive support I found at every corner I turned allowed me to progress as an offensive cyber security consultant.

I approached Ashley at Venn Group as I was aware they had a relationship with various information security organisations and some exciting opportunities for offensive security consultants.

It’s a privilege to be supported by so many individuals and organisations such as Venn Group. As silver award holders of the Armed Forces Covenant, they have enforced their pledge and provided immense opportunity for myself.

The transition from civilian to military can be the most challenging process for any new entrant into the armed forces. The reverse process is often more difficult owed largely due to leaving an identity behind and taking on an unknown. This weight is alleviated by the support provided by those individuals and organisations who support serving and former members of the armed forces.”

“I took a career break from the RAF, following a bereavement. After serving for 14 years, I was really concerned about gaining employment ‘outside’. I need not have worried. I was contacted by Venn Group within days of starting the career break and have been gainfully employed in a job that I really enjoy ever since.”

As acknowledged by our candidates this move to the “outside” is a period of huge uncertainty and all organisations should enrol on the employer recognition scheme to provide support and a clear pathway to ensure these talented individuals are channelled into the huge skill gaps opening across the UK. Thank you to all the armed forces community and to our clients who partner with us to provide that next step in the civilian world
