For World Alzheimer’s Day, we heard from our Bristol Charity Rep, Georgina Fry, about how her office has been supporting their chosen charity, the Bristol Dementia Action Alliance.

World Alzheimer's Day is a global effort to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around Alzheimer's disease and other conditions which can lead to dementia.

This year our Bristol office voted for the Bristol Dementia Action Alliance (BDAA) to be our partner charity for 2023. We felt this was an important local charity to support because of the work they are doing to support both individuals and families who are affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. While there is currently no cure – although recently there have been significant advances in available treatments and hope for future breakthroughs – the work BDAA do is vital to improving dementia awareness, and the events they host help those affected to engage in mental or social activities which may slow down or reduce the effects.

We have been raising money over the year, most recently donating over £200 on our annual charity day. In the coming months, several of our Bristol colleagues will be taking part in various volunteering afternoons to assist BDAA with their Happy Days Memory Café, a much-loved event where their patrons can enjoy entertainers, music, tea, cake and conversation. We’re looking forward to volunteering and continuing our fundraising to support a great cause.
